New transit-oriented development (TOD) standards passed on Wednesday, September 1st during the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission meeting. This will change the requirements for how developers operate around Marion County near bus rapid-transit lines. The City-County Council voted 20-5 last month to adopt new development standards to emphasize density and mixed use districts. The zoning will encourage dense development near the city's bus rapid transit lines and de-prioritize cars to encourage ridership. It will create development avenues to benefit pedestrians and bicyclists and encourage mixed-use spaces to facilitate walkable neighborhoods. The ordinance is scheduled to go into effect November 1, 2021. Learn more by visiting: MPO and IndyTOD
